Oshawa receives 2016 Standard of Excellence Award in the Best Government Website category.

The City of Oshawa received its first Standard of Excellence Award in the Best Government Website category from the Web Marketing Association. The City’s website scores surpass the industry standard in its category for each of the seven criteria that make a successful website:

  • Design
  • Interactivity
  • Technology
  • Content
  • Innovation
  • Copywriting
  • Ease of use

“The City’s website was truly a very successful collaborative project. We would like to extend a huge thank you to those who have shared their comments so far,” said Councillor Amy McQuaid-England, Chair of the Corporate Services Committee in a press release issued by the City of Oshawa. “We look forward to continued feedback to strengthen the City’s online presence and meet the needs of our community.”

The City of Oshawa successfully redesigned their website with the help of eSolutionsGroup (eSolutions), a leading digital solutions company with a long history of working with clients in the Public Sector, including more than 300 municipalities across Canada. Oshawa’s web design focuses on the user. Working with residents, business leaders and community partners, the City of Oshawa collects feedback from the community to help shape the design and content of the website.

“It’s important to engage members of the public when designing a municipal website,” explains Karen Mayfield, President of eSolutions. “We do research gathering and conduct focus groups to better understand the public’s needs and wants, and from there we formulate a plan to develop a website that works well for that community.”

Using social media and online chat platforms, the City of Oshawa hopes to keep an open dialogue with its residents. To support the City of Oshawa’s website improvements, users can easily contact the City from the top of each page and provide helpful comments using the Feedback Form at the bottom of each page.

Since launching in May 2015, the City of Oshawa has received two other awards for their website, including a  Gold Hermes Creative Award  from the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals and the OVATION Award of Merit from the International Association of Business Communications (IABC) Toronto Chapter.
