A more accessible Canada is a more inclusive Canada. That's what the newly-introduced Accessible Canada Act (Bill C-81) will work to accomplish as it moves through the legislature in the coming months. Its goal is to remove barriers so that all Canadians, including those with disabilities, have equal access to things like programs, goods and services, digital information, employment and transportation.

"We're thrilled to know this bill has been introduced to Parliament," said Karen Mayfield, president of eSolutionsGroup (eSolutions). "Consistent federal accessibility requirements will help more Canadians access public services through barrier-free websites. eSolutions is proud to help lead the way by ensuring that all websites we build are accessible and compliant. Our partner Siteimprove also shares this commitment to inclusive content, helping more Canadians access digital information."

eSolutions and Siteimprove are dedicated to building a barrier-free Canada. We are constantly working to make sure our clients' websites and digital applications are compliant with current Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0). These guidelines and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) are expected to form the basis of this new federal legislation.

Through our focus on accessibility, eSolutions regularly engages the Ontario government to learn about updated standards. We participate in accessibility events and host our own accessibility conference, called OpenWeb. As a past member of the Municipal Information Systems Association (MISA) subcommittee on web accessibility, eSolutions has also developed an accessibility toolkit.

When developing accessible websites for our clients, we always incorporate user testing sessions, training sessions and all feedback to ensure a barrier-free experience for all users. Because of this, over 300 Canadian municipal sites developed by eSolutions conform to AODA standards. Visit esolutionsgroup.ca to learn more.
